Spotted Bass

If you're after spotted bass, Avant, Oklahoma, offers access to some lesser-known but productive waters. While Oologah Lake is primarily known for other species, its feeder creeks and rocky shorelines hold a decent population of spotted bass, especially in the clearer waters. These fish are often overlooked, but they can provide a fun challenge. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, using techniques similar to largemouth bass fishing. Small crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs worked around submerged structure are effective. A local tip: try fishing the riprap along the Highway 169 bridge. These spots concentrate bass. Also, consider exploring the smaller creeks flowing into the lake – many hold surprisingly good numbers of spots. Access to these creeks can be limited, sometimes requiring wading or a kayak. The spotted bass in this area are typically smaller than largemouth, but they are aggressive and fun to catch on light tackle.
