Spotted Bass

If you're chasing Spotted Bass in southeastern Oklahoma, the waterways near Rattan offer a unique experience. The smaller rivers and creeks, often overlooked, hold surprisingly good populations of Spots. Unlike larger reservoirs, these fish tend to be more opportunistic feeders. Focus on areas with rocky outcroppings, submerged timber, and current breaks. Spring and fall are prime times, as the fish move into shallower water to spawn or feed before winter. A key to success here is accessibility; many of the best spots require some walking or wading. Look for public access points along the Glover River or its tributaries. Be mindful of water levels, as heavy rains can make wading difficult. Also, remember that Spotted Bass in these smaller systems often don't reach trophy sizes, but the sheer number of fish and the beautiful scenery make it a worthwhile trip. Using lighter tackle can enhance the experience.
