Starry Flounder

While the Pamlico Sound is better known for its speckled trout and red drum, starry flounder inhabit the shallower, muddy-bottomed areas, especially during the cooler months. A local tactic is to use a light jig head tipped with a Gulp! swimming mullet or a small piece of shrimp, slowly dragging it along the bottom. A helpful tip: starry flounder in this region often prefer areas with some current, so try fishing near the mouths of creeks or along channel edges.
