Steelhead

While Bainbridge Island itself doesn't have major steelhead rivers, its location in Puget Sound offers access to intercept migratory steelhead returning to nearby rivers. Anglers often target steelhead in the saltwater around the island as they stage before entering freshwater systems. Winter months are prime time, as steelhead begin their spawning runs. Focus your efforts on areas with strong currents and near river mouths. Trolling with spoons or plugs, or casting with spinners and jigs can be effective. A critical piece of advice is to monitor river conditions and regulations closely, as steelhead fishing is highly regulated to protect wild populations. Also, respect private property along shorelines, and always practice ethical angling techniques.
