Striped Bass

If you're targeting striped bass in northern Alabama, consider a trip to Crossville. While not directly on the Tennessee River, Crossville offers relatively easy access to the tailwaters below Guntersville Dam and other points on the river known for excellent striper fishing. Spring and fall are prime times, as stripers migrate upriver to spawn or feed heavily before winter. Focus on areas with current, like the tailrace below the dam or creek mouths entering the main channel. Local anglers often troll live shad or use large swimbaits to entice strikes. Be aware that river levels can fluctuate rapidly due to dam operations, so check generation schedules before heading out. A good access point is the Guntersville Dam Tailwater access. The striped bass in this area are known for their size, with good numbers of fish exceeding 20 pounds.
