Striped Bass

Bridgeport, Connecticut, offers some surprisingly good striped bass fishing, especially in and around the Long Island Sound. The striper season here peaks during the spring and fall migrations, when these fish are actively feeding. Focus your efforts around the harbor, the mouths of the Housatonic and Pequonnock Rivers, and the numerous rocky outcroppings along the coastline. These areas provide structure and attract baitfish, which in turn draw in the stripers. Bunker (menhaden) are a primary forage fish, so using live or chunk bunker can be highly effective. A local tip: try fishing the Bridgeport Harbor jetties at night, especially during a full moon. The stripers often move into the shallows to feed under the cover of darkness. Be prepared to adjust your depth and retrieve speed based on the current and water temperature. Bridgeport stripers are known for their aggressive feeding habits and strong fighting ability.
