Striped Bass

While not as widely known as other Georgia fisheries, Brooklet offers some opportunities for striped bass, particularly in the Ogeechee River. These fish are stocked periodically, offering anglers a chance to catch a prized striper in a less crowded environment. Spring and fall are the best times to target striped bass, as they move upriver in search of cooler water and spawning grounds. The Ogeechee River requires a bit of exploration to find the stripers, but targeting areas near creek mouths, deeper holes, and areas with current can be productive. Large swimbaits, crankbaits, and live bait are effective choices. Be prepared for a fight, as striped bass are known for their strength and stamina. Access to the Ogeechee can be limited in some areas, so research boat ramps and access points beforehand. Local tip: Pay attention to water temperature, as stripers prefer cooler water. Look for areas where springs or tributaries enter the river, as these can provide cooler refuges during warmer periods.
