Striped Bass

While Culloden isn't directly on a major striper fishery, determined anglers can still find striped bass within a reasonable drive. Consider heading towards the Flint River or even the Ocmulgee River. These rivers are known to hold landlocked striped bass populations, especially below dams where they congregate. Spring is the prime season for targeting stripers as they migrate upstream to spawn. Fall can also be productive as the fish feed heavily before the colder months. A helpful local tip is to check the water release schedules for any dams on the river you plan to fish. Increased water flow can trigger feeding activity. Access to the Flint and Ocmulgee Rivers varies, but there are several public boat ramps and access points available. Be aware that these stripers can be highly migratory, so it may take some searching to find where they are holding. Live bait, such as shad or herring, is often effective for enticing a strike.
