Striped Bass

Targeting striped bass in the Donalsonville area means heading to Lake Seminole. This reservoir offers a unique opportunity to catch stripers in a freshwater environment. While not as renowned as some coastal striper fisheries, Seminole holds a landlocked population that provides exciting angling. The cooler months, from late fall through early spring, are generally best as the stripers prefer cooler water temperatures. Trolling with deep-diving crankbaits or live shad is a popular and effective method. Focus your efforts in the main river channels and near the dam. A local's trick is to watch for bird activity, which can indicate schools of baitfish and, consequently, stripers. Be aware of size and creel limits, as they can change. The Chattahoochee River below the dam also holds stripers, offering bank fishing opportunities. Expect to find a mix of smaller and larger fish, with the potential for fish over 20 pounds.
