Striped Bass

While Nahunta, Georgia, isn't traditionally known as a striped bass hotspot, the Satilla River does offer a unique, albeit challenging, opportunity to target these fish. Landlocked stripers, that have made their way up from coastal rivers, can be found in the Satilla, particularly during their spawning runs in the early spring. This is a smaller, more localized fishery compared to larger reservoirs, so patience and local knowledge are key. Fishing live shad or herring on downriggers or with heavy weights in the deeper sections of the river is a common approach. Check with local bait shops for the most up-to-date information on striper activity. Be aware that access to the Satilla can be limited, with few public boat ramps in certain areas. The striped bass in the Satilla River are typically smaller than those found in larger reservoirs, but the thrill of catching one in this unique environment is well worth the effort.
