Striped Bass

If you're chasing striped bass in Northeast Georgia, Oakwood offers convenient access to Lake Lanier, a premier striper destination. Lanier's deep, clear waters hold a healthy population of these hard-fighting fish. Spring and fall are prime times, as the stripers move shallower to feed. During the summer, focus on deeper water near the dam or river channels. Live bait like blueback herring is incredibly effective, but trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits can also produce. For bank access, try the parks around the lake; however, Lanier is best fished from a boat. Be aware that Lanier can get crowded, especially on weekends, so plan your trip accordingly. Also, pay close attention to the Georgia DNR fishing regulations, as they are strictly enforced on Lanier.
