Striped Bass

While Villa Rica, Georgia, isn't traditionally known as a striped bass hotspot, nearby access to the upper reaches of the Chattahoochee River and some of its impoundments offer a chance to target these hard-fighting fish. The spring spawning run is a prime time to fish, as stripers migrate upstream. Look for them near dams and other structures that impede their progress. Trolling with live bait or casting swimbaits can be effective. Another productive technique is to fish around bridges and deeper holes. Check local regulations for specific size and creel limits. Be aware that the river can have strong currents, so use appropriate weights and tackle. A good access point is the boat ramp at McIntosh Reserve Park, offering access to the river. The striped bass in this area may not reach trophy sizes as often as in larger reservoirs, but they can still provide a thrilling fishing experience.
