If you're chasing striped bass in Georgia, West Point Lake on the Chattahoochee River is a prime destination. This reservoir offers a healthy striper population, and the fishing tactics often revolve around mimicking the prevalent forage – shad and herring. Early spring finds stripers staging near the river channels and creek mouths as they prepare to spawn. Trolling umbrella rigs or casting large swimbaits can be highly effective. During the summer months, stripers seek cooler, deeper water. Utilize downriggers or heavy jigging spoons to target fish suspended near the thermocline. Fall sees a resurgence in activity as stripers feed aggressively before winter. A popular access point is the McGee Bridge ramp, but arrive early as it can get crowded, especially on weekends.
