Striped Bass

If you're chasing striped bass in central Mississippi, Forest offers some interesting, though perhaps less well-known, opportunities. While not a traditional striper hotspot, the freshwater lakes and reservoirs within a reasonable drive of Forest, such as those impounded on the Pearl River and its tributaries, hold stocked stripers. The spring and fall are prime times to target them, as the water temperatures are moderate, and the fish are actively feeding. Look for them near points, submerged timber, and around the dam structures. A local tip: check water release schedules from any dams, as the increased current can trigger feeding frenzies. Also, be aware that striper populations are maintained through stocking, so practice catch and release to help sustain the fishery. Remember to consult the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks for creel limits and size restrictions before you head out.
