Striped Bass

While Indianola, Mississippi, isn't traditionally known as a striped bass hotspot, the introduction of stripers into some of the larger reservoirs and river systems in the Delta has created a unique opportunity. Specifically, targeting striped bass in the larger connected waterways is your best bet. Spring and fall are the prime times, as stripers follow baitfish migrations. Trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits near points and drop-offs can be effective. Live bait, such as shad or large shiners, is also a popular choice. Keep an eye on your electronics for schools of baitfish, as stripers are likely to be nearby. A good boat ramp is available on the Sunflower River south of town. Be aware that striper fishing in this region is still developing, and success can be variable. Check with local bait shops for the most up-to-date information on striper activity and preferred techniques. The stripers here aren't generally trophy-sized, but they offer a fun and challenging angling experience in an unexpected setting.
