Striped Bass

While not as prolific as in some other parts of the South, striped bass fishing near Madison, Mississippi, offers a unique freshwater experience. The Pearl River and Ross Barnett Reservoir are the primary locations to target these hard-fighting fish. Spring is the best time, as stripers migrate upstream to spawn. Trolling large crankbaits or live bait near the dam at the Rez can be productive. Be aware of seasonal regulations concerning size and creel limits, as these can change. Access to the Pearl River is available through several public boat ramps north and south of Madison. Stripers in this area tend to be nomadic, so using electronics to locate schools is crucial. Look for areas with current and baitfish activity. Patience is key, but the reward of hooking into a Mississippi striper is well worth the effort.
