While Alton Bay is nestled on Lake Winnipesaukee, targeting Striped Bass involves venturing further south to the brackish waters of New Hampshire's coastline. The Squamscott River and Great Bay Estuary, accessible within a reasonable drive, offer the best opportunities. Spring and fall are the peak seasons as stripers migrate through these areas. Focus on points, channel edges, and areas with current. Live eels are a local favorite, but chunk mackerel and swimming plugs also produce. Pay close attention to water temperatures; stripers become more active as the water warms. A practical tip is to check local tide charts, as stripers often feed more aggressively during tidal changes. The stripers here aren't typically trophy-sized, but the scenic beauty and plentiful smaller fish make for an enjoyable experience.
