Barnegat Light is a premier location for striped bass fishing in New Jersey, particularly during the spring and fall migrations. The proximity to Barnegat Inlet creates strong currents and abundant forage, making it a magnet for stripers. Focus your efforts around the inlet itself, along the beaches, and in the back bays. Live-lining bunker (menhaden) is a highly effective technique, especially when the fish are actively feeding. A local tip: try fishing at night around the bridge pilings using artificial lures like swimming plugs or bucktails. Be mindful of boat traffic, especially during peak season. Striped bass in this area tend to be larger than average, with many fish exceeding 30 pounds.
