Gold Beach offers a unique opportunity to intercept striped bass as they move along the southern Oregon coast. The Rogue River estuary is the primary draw here, providing a rich feeding ground where stripers congregate. Peak season is typically late summer and early fall when the fish are fattening up before winter. The key is to locate areas with strong current and access to deeper water. Focus on the lower Rogue River and the areas just outside the river mouth. Look for structure like jetties and submerged rocks, which can hold fish. Natural presentations are generally more effective, so consider using live bait or lures that imitate local forage fish. Be aware that the Rogue can experience significant changes in water level, especially after heavy rains, so check conditions before heading out. A good access point is the boat ramp at Jot's Resort, offering easy access to the lower river and estuary. Don't be afraid to troll along the edges of the shipping channel to find active fish.
