While not as well-known as some other Texas striper hotspots, McClellan offers a more secluded experience. Spring and fall are prime times, as the stripers become more active with the changing water temperatures. Focus on areas near the dam or where the Canadian River feeds into the lake; these spots tend to concentrate baitfish and, consequently, stripers. Trolling with crankbaits or live shad is a productive method. Be aware that McClellan can experience significant water level fluctuations, so check conditions before you go. The boat ramp on the south side of the lake is your best bet for access. The striper population here is supported by regular stocking, so there are good numbers of fish to be caught.
