Striped Bass

While Washington State isn't typically known for striped bass, Westport offers a unique opportunity to target these fish in the brackish waters of Grays Harbor. This is a relatively new fishery, and while the stripers aren't giants, they can provide exciting light-tackle action. Focus your efforts in the sloughs and channels of the harbor, especially during the summer and early fall when the water warms up. These fish thrive in areas where freshwater meets saltwater. Casting swimbaits or crankbaits that mimic local forage fish is a good starting point. A local tip: target areas near bridge pilings and riprap, as these structures attract baitfish and, consequently, stripers.
