Fort Myers is a renowned destination for pursuing the Silver King, Tarpon. The waters around Boca Grande Pass, just north of Fort Myers, are legendary for their massive Tarpon migrations in the spring and early summer. However, you can find resident Tarpon throughout the year in the Caloosahatchee River and surrounding bays. Focus on areas with strong currents and deep channels. A proven technique is to fish live crabs or threadfin herring on the outgoing tide near bridges and inlets. A local tip: Pre-rig your leaders with circle hooks and have plenty of spare tackle, as Tarpon are notorious for breaking lines. The Tarpon in this area are known for their incredible size and jumping ability. Be prepared for a challenging and rewarding fight.
