The prime season runs from late spring through early fall, with the hottest months often producing the most consistent action. These fish are powerful and migratory, so their presence can vary, but Venice consistently holds a healthy population. A local tip is to focus your efforts around the numerous oil rigs and platforms that dot the nearshore waters. These structures provide habitat and attract baitfish, which in turn draw in tarpon. Live mullet or menhaden are the go-to baits, fished either under a popping cork or free-lined. Several marinas in Venice provide easy access to the fishing grounds. Be prepared for a long boat ride and bring plenty of sunscreen!
