Tautog

Tautog, also known as blackfish, present a unique challenge for anglers fishing near Colonial Beach, Virginia. These bottom-dwelling fish are notoriously picky and inhabit rocky structures, wrecks, and pilings. The best time to target tautog is during the cooler months, from late fall through early spring, as they move inshore to spawn. They are structure-oriented, so you'll need to fish tight to the bottom. Green crabs are the bait of choice for experienced tautog anglers.
