Tilapia
Kissimmee, Florida offers some surprisingly good Tilapia fishing opportunities. These fish have become well-established in many of the area's lakes, canals, and ponds. The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, in particular, holds healthy populations. They are most active during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall, when the water temperatures are consistently high. Tilapia are primarily herbivores, so using baits like bread, corn, or even small pieces of lettuce can be effective. They tend to congregate in shallow, weedy areas, so focus your efforts there. Light tackle is all you need for these fish. Many anglers find success fishing from shore in local parks or along the banks of canals. Consider scouting out areas with visible tilapia activity, such as spawning beds, before you start fishing. As an introduced species, regulations regarding harvest can vary, so check with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) before your trip.
