Tuna

While Pennsylvania isn't typically the first place that comes to mind for tuna fishing, opportunities do exist for targeting these pelagic giants out of Point Pleasant. Your best bet involves heading far offshore, well beyond the reach of most recreational anglers launching from this area, to find the warmer waters associated with the Gulf Stream. Bluefin and yellowfin tuna are the primary targets. Trolling with spreader bars and skirted lures is a common technique, as is chunking with cut bait. The season typically peaks in the late summer and early fall. Given the distance and specialized gear required, it's highly recommended to charter a boat with an experienced captain who knows the offshore fishing grounds and has the necessary equipment. Pay close attention to weather forecasts, as conditions can change rapidly far offshore. Be sure to check Pennsylvania's saltwater fishing regulations for specific tuna size and bag limits.
