Weakfish

Weakfish, also known as 'sea trout', can be a rewarding target around Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania, especially during their spring and fall migrations. The key is to find areas where the Delaware River's salinity is just right – not too fresh, not too salty. Look for them in the shallower bays and creeks that feed into the main river channel, as these areas warm up faster and attract baitfish. Soft plastics on light jigheads are highly effective, mimicking the small silversides and other baitfish they feed on. Early morning and late evening are prime times. A local tactic is to drift these areas, paying attention to any subtle changes in depth or current. Also, be aware that weakfish are notoriously fragile, so use barbless hooks and handle them with care if you plan to release them. Check the local fishing reports for recent sightings, as their presence can be sporadic.
