Walleye

While not as widely known as other Iowa fisheries, the lakes and reservoirs surrounding Bedford can occasionally offer Walleye opportunities. These aren't the sprawling walleye factories of the northern states, but dedicated anglers can find success. Spring and fall are the most productive times, coinciding with the walleye's spawning and feeding periods. Focus on areas with rocky points, submerged humps, and drop-offs. Jigs tipped with minnows or nightcrawlers are a classic walleye presentation, but crankbaits can also be effective, especially when trolled.
