Walleye

Cadillac offers some excellent Walleye fishing opportunities, particularly in Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell. These interconnected lakes provide a diverse habitat that supports a thriving Walleye population. Spring and fall are the prime times to target Walleye, especially during the spawning runs in the spring and as they move shallow to feed in the fall. Jigging near structure, such as submerged humps, drop-offs, and weed edges, is a popular and effective technique. Trolling with crankbaits or crawler harnesses can also be productive, especially during the summer months when Walleye tend to suspend in deeper water. A local tip: pay attention to water clarity, as Walleye prefer slightly stained water. The Lake Cadillac State Park has a good boat launch and provides easy access to the lake. The Walleye in these lakes are known for their good size, with many fish exceeding the legal minimum length.
