Walleye

While not typically considered a walleye hotspot, the area around Bonanza offers a limited opportunity to target this species, primarily in Klamath Lake. Klamath Lake is a large, shallow lake, and while it's not teeming with walleye, a dedicated angler can find some success. Walleye were introduced many years ago, and a small, self-sustaining population exists. The best time to target walleye is during the spring and fall, when water temperatures are cooler. Focus your efforts around rocky points, submerged structure, and areas with current. Trolling crankbaits or jigging with minnows are effective techniques. Be prepared for potentially windy conditions on Klamath Lake, as it's a very large, open body of water. Launching from the various public boat ramps around the lake provides access to the walleye areas. While walleye fishing here might not be as prolific as in other regions, the challenge can be rewarding, and you might be surprised by the size of some of the fish you encounter.
