Walleye

While the Oregon Coast isn't typically known for walleye, the Siltcoos Lake and Tahkenitch Lake near Dunes City offer a unique opportunity to target these fish in a coastal environment. These freshwater lakes, connected to the Pacific via short creeks, have surprisingly healthy walleye populations. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the walleye move into shallower waters to spawn. Focus your efforts around submerged timber, weed beds, and drop-offs. A local tip: Siltcoos Lake can get weedy in the summer, so use weedless lures or topwater baits. The walleye here tend to be smaller than those found in larger reservoirs, but they are plentiful, and the stunning coastal scenery makes for a memorable fishing experience. Access to Siltcoos Lake is readily available via the Siltcoos Lake Campground and boat ramp. Tahkenitch Lake has several access points along Highway 101.
