Walleye in the Bremerton area are primarily found in Lake Tapps, a short drive east. While not as renowned as some eastern Washington walleye fisheries, Lake Tapps offers a decent chance at hooking into these tasty fish. Spring and fall are the best times to target walleye here, as they become more active in cooler water temperatures. Look for them along rocky points and drop-offs. Trolling with crankbaits is a popular and effective method, especially along the edges of the main channels. Vertical jigging can also be productive when you locate concentrations of fish. Be sure to check the WDFW regulations for Lake Tapps, as there may be specific rules regarding walleye size and limits. A crucial local tip is to pay attention to the thermocline, as walleye will often congregate just above it. Several boat launches provide access to Lake Tapps, but parking can fill up quickly on weekends. Early mornings are your best bet for securing a spot.
