Largemouth Bass

Bremerton offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, especially if you know where to look. Unlike some areas of the state, the bass here aren't pressured as heavily, leading to some real lunkers. Focus your efforts on Kitsap Lake and Wildcat Lake; both are known for healthy bass populations. Spring is prime time, as the fish move into the shallows to spawn. Look for submerged timber, lily pads, and docks – these are all bass magnets. A local tip: Kitsap Lake can get crowded on weekends, so try fishing during the week if possible. Also, pay attention to water clarity, as it can change quickly after rain. A good starting point is the boat launch at Kitsap Memorial State Park, which provides access to a productive section of the lake. Experiment with different lures; the bass here can be finicky, but generally, spinnerbaits and soft plastics are reliable choices. Don't be afraid to fish slow, especially in colder water.
