Walleye

Shoshoni, Wyoming, offers some surprisingly good walleye fishing, primarily in Boysen Reservoir. While not the first species that comes to mind when thinking of Wyoming, walleye thrive in this large reservoir. The best time to target them is during the spring spawning run or in the fall as they fatten up for winter. Jigs tipped with minnows or nightcrawlers are a classic and effective presentation. Trolling crankbaits along the deeper channels and submerged structure can also produce excellent results. A fish finder is essential for locating walleye holding near structure. Be aware that Boysen Reservoir can experience significant water level fluctuations, impacting fish location and access. Check with local bait shops or the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for the most up-to-date conditions and regulations. While not trophy-sized on average, the walleye in Boysen are plentiful and provide excellent table fare.
