White Bass

White bass fishing in the Pima area is centered around the Gila River and its associated reservoirs. While not as renowned as other white bass fisheries, the Gila can provide some exciting action during their spring spawning runs. Look for them to congregate near the river's confluences with smaller creeks and irrigation canals as they move upstream. Spring is undoubtedly the prime time, typically March through May, as the fish are actively spawning. Small jigs and crankbaits are effective lures. Be aware that the Gila River can experience significant fluctuations in water level, so check conditions before you go. A local tip: focus on areas with current breaks and submerged structure. White bass in this area tend to be smaller than those in larger reservoirs, but their aggressive strikes make them a fun target.
