White Bass

If you're looking for some fast-paced action in the Snellville area, consider targeting White Bass. While not as heralded as other species, the local creeks and the upper reaches of Lake Lanier (a short drive north) can offer some surprisingly good White Bass fishing, especially during their spring spawning runs. The prime time is typically late February through early April, when the fish migrate upstream to spawn. Look for them in the faster-flowing sections of the creeks and rivers that feed into the lake. Small spinners, crankbaits, and curly-tail grubs are all effective. Access to the creeks can be a bit challenging, but there are several bridge crossings and public access points along the major roads. Be aware of private property and always obtain permission before fishing on private land. A lighter action rod and reel will make for more enjoyable fights with these feisty fish.
