White Bass

If you're after some fast-paced action, River Bluff's white bass fishing can deliver. These schooling fish are aggressive and fun to catch, particularly during their spring spawning runs. The Ohio River is the main draw here, and the peak season is typically March through May. Look for white bass congregating below dams and in the mouths of tributaries as they move upstream to spawn. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. Trolling can also be a productive method for locating schools of white bass. A local tip is to pay attention to bird activity; flocks of birds diving on baitfish often indicate the presence of feeding white bass below. As the water warms, white bass will move back downstream. Even though they can be caught throughout the year, the spring run is when they are most abundant and easiest to target in the River Bluff area.
