White bass, also known as sand bass or barfish, offer some exciting fishing opportunities near Goodman, especially during their spring spawning runs. While Goodman isn't directly on a major white bass river, the tributaries of the Big Black River and smaller creeks can hold decent populations when the fish migrate upstream to spawn. The key is to time your trip right – usually late February through April, depending on water temperatures. Look for areas with moving water, such as riffles and shoals, where the white bass congregate to spawn. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. Access to the creeks and rivers can be limited, so be prepared to do some exploring and possibly wade in shallow areas. The white bass in this area are known for their schooling behavior, so if you catch one, chances are there are more nearby.
