White Bass

White bass fishing around Leakesville can be quite productive during their spring spawning runs. The Chickasawhay River is your primary target. These fish migrate upstream from larger bodies of water, congregating in the river to spawn. The peak season is typically March and April, depending on water temperatures. Look for them in areas with current, such as below riffles or near creek mouths. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. A local tactic is to use tandem rigs, with two different lures tied on, to increase your chances of attracting a strike. Access can be found at various bridge crossings, but be respectful of private property. The white bass in this area tend to be average size, but their sheer numbers during the spawn make for some exciting fishing.
