Largemouth Bass

Leakesville, Mississippi, and the surrounding Greene County offer some excellent largemouth bass fishing, particularly in the Pascagoula River and its associated creeks and oxbow lakes. The Pascagoula is a unique, relatively undeveloped river system, supporting a healthy bass population. Spring is undoubtedly the prime time, as the bass move into the shallows to spawn. Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits are effective choices around vegetation. However, don't overlook the fall, when bass aggressively feed before winter. The river can be accessed from several public boat ramps, but be aware of fluctuating water levels and potential hazards like submerged logs. A local tactic is to target the numerous cypress trees along the riverbanks with soft plastics. The bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different presentations until you find what works. Be prepared for a true river fishing experience, with plenty of wildlife and beautiful scenery.
