White Bass

If you're looking to tangle with some white bass in northeast Mississippi, Hatley offers a few good options. The Tombigbee River is the main draw here, and its tributaries can also hold some surprises. Spring is prime time as the white bass move upstream to spawn, concentrating them in shallower areas. Look for them around current breaks, rocky points, and below any dams or weirs. Early morning and late evening are usually the most productive times. A local tip: the boat ramp at Aberdeen Lock and Dam is a popular access point, but can get crowded on weekends. Also, water levels on the Tombigbee can fluctuate, so check conditions before you go. Jigs, spinners, and small crankbaits are all effective lures. White bass in this area aren't generally huge, averaging around a pound or two, but they fight hard and are great for a fish fry.
