White Bass

Quitman, Mississippi, offers some surprisingly good white bass fishing if you know where to look. While not as famous as some other white bass hotspots, the creeks and rivers feeding into local reservoirs like Archusa Water Park hold good populations. Prime time is undoubtedly the spring spawning run, typically from late February through April. Focus on areas with current – the faster, the better. Look for them congregating below dams, at creek mouths, and around any structure that breaks the flow. A local tip: many anglers have success fishing the tailwaters below the dam at Archusa. Be mindful of water releases, as conditions can change quickly. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective, but don't be afraid to experiment with live minnows. Quitman's white bass may not be giants, but they are plentiful, and a day on the water can produce some fast action.
