White Bass

White bass fishing near Soso, Mississippi, isn't as widely known as it is in some other parts of the state, but that doesn't mean it's non-existent. The creeks and rivers that eventually feed into larger systems hold populations of these feisty fish. The key is timing your trip with the spring spawning run. This typically occurs from late February through April, when the whites migrate upstream to spawn. Focus your efforts on areas with current, such as the mouths of creeks entering larger rivers. Small jigs, spinners, and in-line spinners are all effective lures. Many of the access points are along bridges and roadways, so be mindful of traffic. The white bass in these smaller systems tend to be smaller than those found in larger reservoirs, but they are still a blast to catch on light tackle.
