White Bass

Johnson, Nebraska, offers some surprisingly good white bass action, primarily in the Missouri River bordering the state. Look for white bass to congregate below dams and near the mouths of tributary streams as they move upstream to spawn. The spring spawning run (April-May) is the peak time to target them, but they can also be caught throughout the summer and into the fall. Focus your efforts in areas with current breaks and rocky structure. A good access point is the Nebraska City boat ramp, which provides access to the Missouri River. Local tip: White bass are schooling fish, so if you catch one, there are likely more nearby. Use small crankbaits, spinners, or jigs to effectively target these aggressive fish. Be aware of changing river conditions and strong currents, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
