White Bass

For some fast-paced action on light tackle, consider targeting White Bass on Lake Conroe. These schooling fish are abundant and aggressive, providing consistent fishing opportunities throughout the year, with spring being a peak time. During the spring spawning run, white bass migrate up the creeks and rivers that feed into the lake. Look for them in areas with current, such as the San Jacinto River channel. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. As the water warms, white bass will move back into the main lake, schooling near points and humps. Trolling or casting into schooling fish can produce some exciting action. A local tip: Keep an eye out for surface activity, as white bass often break the surface when chasing baitfish. Also, the area near the dam and the FM 1097 bridge are known hotspots. Be prepared to move around to find the schools, and have fun!
