Hybrid Striped Bass

Lake Conroe is a well-known destination for Hybrid Striped Bass fishing in Texas. These hard-fighting fish provide excellent sport, and Lake Conroe's healthy forage base allows them to grow to impressive sizes. The best time to target hybrids is during the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate. During these periods, hybrids can be found schooling near the surface, chasing baitfish. Trolling crankbaits or casting topwater lures can be highly effective. As the water warms in the summer, hybrids will move deeper, seeking cooler temperatures. Live shad is the bait of choice during this time, fished on downriggers or Carolina rigs. A local tip: Pay attention to bird activity, as flocks of birds often indicate the presence of schooling hybrids. Also, the area near the dam is a popular spot, but be aware of the restricted zones. These fish tend to be where the bait is, so follow the shad!
