White Bass

White Bass fishing near Marble Falls can be an absolute blast, especially during their spring spawning run. Focus your efforts on the Colorado River above Lake LBJ and the Pedernales River. These fish migrate upstream to spawn, congregating in large numbers. The peak season is typically March and April, but it can vary depending on water temperatures. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective. A great access point is the public park on the Pedernales River just west of Johnson City. Look for areas with current and rocky bottoms. The White Bass in this area are generally plentiful, though not particularly large, with most fish averaging around a pound. It's a great opportunity for fast-paced action and filling the freezer with some tasty fillets.
