White Bass

The spring spawning run is legendary, with white bass migrating up the Leon and Lampasas Rivers to spawn. This is when they are most concentrated and easiest to catch. Look for them in the river channels, near creek mouths, and around rocky points. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. A local tip: pay attention to water clarity, as white bass prefer clearer water. The Leon River arm of the lake often clears up faster after rains. Even after the spawn, white bass can be found schooling in the main lake, chasing shad. Look for them on your electronics and try trolling or casting into the schools.
