White Bass

If you're after white bass near West Columbia, Texas, the Brazos River during their spring spawning run is the place to be. Typically occurring from late February to early April, these fish migrate upstream in large numbers. Focus your efforts in areas with current, such as below dams or in river constrictions. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are highly effective. Fishing from the bank is a popular option, as many access points exist along the Brazos. A local favorite is fishing near the Highway 36 bridge. Be prepared for fast-paced action, as white bass often travel in schools. Outside of the spawning run, white bass can still be found in the Brazos and its tributaries, but they tend to be more scattered and require more searching. Look for them around points, submerged structure, and areas with baitfish activity. The white bass in the Brazos are generally of good size and provide excellent sport.
