White Bass

White bass, or sand bass as they're often called, offer fast-paced action in the waters near White Settlement, especially during their spring spawning runs. Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth are excellent choices. In early spring, typically March and April, these fish migrate upstream to spawn, concentrating in river channels and creeks. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. Look for areas with moving water and rocky bottoms. A local tip: The West Fork of the Trinity River, which feeds into Eagle Mountain Lake, can be a hotspot for white bass during the spawn. Also, pay attention to water temperature, as the spawn is triggered by warming water. Once the spawn is over, white bass will often school in open water, chasing shad.
